Worksop: Precious New Year baby could have been first born in country in 2016

A baby girl born in Worksop shortly after the stroke of midnight on New Year's Day could have been the first tot to make its debut in the country this year.

Little Abigail Sissons, who weighed a healthy 8lbs 12 oz, arrived at 12:00:16am on Friday, January 1 at Bassetlaw Hospital,

Parents Dean and Hayley Sissons, who live in the Kilton area of Worksop, said they were ‘over the moon’ with their new addition.

“She’s beautiful,” said Hayley. “We already have two boys and they are really excited about getting a little sister.”

Sharon Dickinson, head of Midwifery at Bassetlaw Hospital, said: “We are delighted to be the hospital who welcomed the first baby of 2016.

“Every birth is special but to be the first baby born in 2016 is extra special and we congratulate Hayley and Dean on the safe arrival of Abigail who was born just after the stroke of midnight. What a fantastic way to welcome in the new year.”
