Praise has flooded in for two determined Worksop men who managed to transform a renowned dumping ground on Turner Road into a flourishing business after being made redundant.
Finding themselves out of work just before Christmas last year, business partners Tom Raisbeck and Ajay Adla decided to take a risk and launch Paving Stones Direct, a company which supplies globally sourced, natural paving slabs.
In order to launch their business, the pair had to clear out a plot on Turner Road that had been used as a ‘dumping ground’ for several years - and were delighted when family, friends and members of the local community all chipped in to help.
Bassetlaw MP John Mann was impressed by Tom and Ajay’s efforts and paid them a visit last week along with Bassetlaw councillor Josie Potts.
Mr Mann said: “It is great to see that this former grot-spot has been transformed into a thriving employment site giving opportunities to local young people to work, and clearly selling a high quality product.”
“I wish them great success for the future.”
Tom Raisbeck said: “We couldn’t believe it when we were made redundant last November and, with Christmas approachng, we knew we had to act fast.”
“With Ajay’s wife on maternity leave, it didn’t come at the best time. But we were determined to launch our company.”
“It was defintiely worth the risk. Business is going well- even better than expected.”
“Eventually we hope to start employing people from the surrounding area as we grow as a business.”
“We did this all off our backs, no bank loans or credit cards - just help from family and close friends, which we are incredibly grateful for.”
