Worksop police officer sacked after assault

A Worksop police officer has been sacked after he was convicted of an assault.

PC Gary Nicholls, aged 43, based at Worksop Police Station, was found to have breached the standards of professional behaviour in respect of discreditable conduct.

He was dismissed from Nottinghamshire Police after a hearing today, Monday, March 6.

On Tuesday August 2, 2016 the officer was convicted by South Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court of assault. He was not on duty at the time of the incident.

On Friday February 3, 2017 an appeal against the conviction was not upheld.

PC Nicholls has the opportunity to appeal the dismissal.

Detective Inspector Louise Jordan said: “Nottinghamshire police expect the highest standards of behaviour from its staff. The conviction of PC Nicholls fundamentally undermines the trust and confidence placed in him by Nottinghamshire Police and damages public confidence in policing.”
