Worksop: Pet owners warned to be vigilant after three cat shootings with air rifle

This week another cat was forced to have surgery after the ‘distraught’ owner found her beloved cat ‘bloodied’ after going missing overnight.

The woman took her cat to VetSavers, Norfolk Street, Worksop, where a specialist team carried out surgery on Tuesday 26th May to remove a pellet which had become lodged.

Head nurse at VetSavers, Suzhy Winfield, said: “It is horrible, a lot of heartache is being caused for a quick second thrill, I would urge them to please stop.”

“What are they going to do next, take a pop at a human?”

“This was a homely cat and the owner could not get it in the car when she found it.”

“It was shaken and is now a very nervous cat.”

“Luckily the pellet had not gone all the way through.”

News of the shooting comes after a cat was shot twice with an air rifle in Worksop last month.

The incident took place in Kilton, between Saturday 18th and Friday 24th April.

Cat owner Michael Hurst, of Macefield Place, had his suspicions raised when his six-year-old cat, which rarely stays outside for very long, left the house and did not return.

The injured black, white and ginger pet eventually made it home almost a week later where it was taken straight to the vets, receiving over £900 worth of treatment. The cat had no lasting injuries.

And just last week, Paul Bramley, of Oakholme Rose, Worksop, said his family cat had to be put down after being shot in the area.

“We had Poppy for around three-and-a-half years,” he said.

“We took her to the vets, the pellet had gone though her muscles and abdomen,” he added.
