Worksop: Nuisance neighbour evicted after 12-hour drug-fuelled parties in flat

A nuisance neighbour who hosted drug-fuelled parties that would last up to 12 hours in his Worksop flat has been evicted.

Tenant Scott Wright, formerly of Greenacre Road, was visited on five occasions by police between April 12 and June 13 due to excessive noise, drug taking and subjecting his neighbours to inappropriate behaviour in the communal areas of the block of flats.

Wright was also served with a possession notice in June after reports of loud parties that would continue throughout the night.

On Monday A1 Housing and Bassetlaw District Council took back possession of the property after a judge ordered Wright to move out on Tuesday, September 8.

Don Spittlehouse, managing director at A1 Housing, said: “Where there is a clear proof that a minority of tenants fail to abide by their tenancy conditions, we will take legal action to ride these selfish and irresponsible individuals from A1 managed properties.

“It is apparent that Mr Wright had little concern for the welfare of his neighbours and we hope that their surroundings are now a peaceful and pleasant place to live.”

Wright had been warned of the consequences of his actions by police and A1 Housing officers.

Having been served with the possession notice on June 16, Wright appealed and following a review on July 13, which upheld the original order, failed to leave the property until possession proceedings were issued at Mansfield County Court.

Coun Julie Leigh, cabinet member for neighbourhoods at Bassetlaw Council, said: “Mr Wright clearly did not have any respect or consideration for his neighbours and was quite rightly ordered to leave the property by a Judge.

“All A1 Housing tenants and Bassetlaw residents have the right to live in their homes without constant disturbance and nuisance of this nature. This action shows that if A1 Housing tenants fail to abide by the conditions set out in their tenancy agreement, we will apply to the courts to recover possession of the property.”
