Worksop: Norbridge Academy is in the finals for an award which celebrates the progress disadvantaged pupils make

The school is one of just 30 finalists for the 2015 Pupil Premium Awards, which will be presented by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg at the Drapers Hall, in London, on 25th March and the school is in with a chance of winning prizes of up to £100,000 to use to continue to improve the education of disadvantaged children.

It also stands a chance of winning a variety of other regional prizes of up to £50,000.

In a letter to the school, David Laws MP described Norbridge Academy’s “extraordinary achievement”, adding that it “excels in educating disadvantaged pupils and improving their outcomes.”

George Huthart, Head Teacher at Norbridge Academy, said: “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for such a prestigious award.”

“It is great recognition for all the hard work the children and staff have put in over the last few years.”

Norbridge Academy uses the government’s Pupil Premium funding to support pupils by giving them the opportunity to take part in Wado Ryu Karate lessons, breakfast and after school clubs, and educational visits including residential trips to Kingswood, Hathersage and France. The school also uses the funding to provide free school uniform to disadvantaged children.

Mr Huthart added: “Our school belief system is to Be the Best You Can Be and this is a vision that both children and adults share.”
