Worksop: NNC Students lend support to community

Foundation Construction learners from North Nottinghamshire College have completed a number of projects to support their local community.

The team of students from the Woerksop-based college built an outdoor pizza oven at Carlton Youth Centre as well as a decked area that was completed by a different College team the year before.

The oven, which will be used by local community groups, was built using donated and reclaimed materials and were supported by students from the Learning Development programme who painted it.

Steve Scotthorne, a Youth Worker at Carlton Youth, said: “With the building of the pizza oven and laying of the decking, the young people of the centre have now got a great outdoor space to use where once was just waste land. The transformation has been incredible.”

Meanwhile, the Foundation Construction team have also designed and built a story telling chair at North Leverton Sure Start Children’s Centre.

Foundation Learning Tutor, Mick Cox, added: “These projects have been valuable work experience for our learners and it also enables them to put something back into their local communities.”
