Nancy, a 14 week old Cockapoo, has joined the academy as their school dog.

The initial suggestion to get a school dog was made by lots of children when talking about ways in which their school farm could be developed.

Lots of consideration was given to selecting a breed that is non-shedding, placid and easy to train. She has certainly been a big hit since starting with the school two weeks ago.

School business manager Vicky Dashper offered to be Nancy’s primary carer and takes her home every night and at the weekends.

Specially trained to work with children, Nancy will help pupils who have special needs, suffer bereavement or who are upset in any way and in need of calm and comfort.

One pupil said “We love having Nancy. She listens to us reading and is really calming when we look after her.”
