Worksop murder probe update: Police name victim as local man

Glen Kitchens, from the Sunnyside area of Worksop, was pronounced dead at Bassetlaw Hospital on Saturday 6th April.

The assault happened at around 7.30pm in broad daylight in Bridge Street, near its junction with Central Avenue and Ryton Street.

Four teenage boys, three aged 15 and one aged 16, who were arrested on suspicion of murder will remain in custody overnight.

As part of the murder inquiry, detectives are scouring CCTV from the town centre and speaking to witnesses in a bid to establish what happened.

Forensic officers have been carrying out painstaking work at the scene all day today (Sunday), concentrating on the area around the Dorothy Perkins, Specsavers and Timpsons shops, which all remained closed.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place tomorrow or Tuesday to confirm the cause of death.

Meanwhile, a Notts Police spokesman said Mr Kitchens’ relatives were being supported by specially-trained detectives at this difficult time.

Police want to speak to anyone who was in the Bridge Street area at the time of the incident, who may have seen the attack or anything suspicious, or remembers seeing a group of teenage boys and girls in the area.

A cordon remains in place at the scene tonight, but it is hoped shops will open as normal tomorrow (Monday 8th April 2013).
