Worksop: Mother’s disgust at local shop selling legal highs

A worried mother has hit out at the owners of a new legal high shop that has opened in Worksop.

The woman, who has asked not to be named, says the owners of Bing Bong on Gateford Road are just encouraging young people to start taking drugs.

But the manager of the shop says they are doing nothing wrong and that if they hadn’t opened the business, someone else would.

“I think it’s disgusting that this shop has been allowed to open,” said the woman.

“Things like this are just going to encourage people on to harder, more dangerous drugs in the future.”

“I’m talking about 18 and 19 year-olds who get drunk, try these things out and get hooked on them.”

“Soon enough, these legal highs aren’t going to be enough and they’ll go looking for harder drugs like heroin and cocaine.”

“Given all the drug problems Worksop has had in the past, surely this is the last place a shop like that should be opening.”

“Whoever has allowed this is being completely irresponsible in my view.”

But the manger of the shop, who also asked not to be named, said they would put the illegal drug dealers out of business.

People coming here will get something that is well regulated and controlled, while the stuff being sold by illegal dealers or over the internet could be much more dangerous,” he said.

“If we hadn’t set this sort of shop up, someone else would have.”

“We have astrict no children policy and only over-18s are allowed in the shop and they will have to show ID if we think they are in anyway under-18.”

MP for Bassetlaw John Mann said: ““This is a peculiar and unwelcome addition to the town. Local people should be aware that so-called legal highs can be very dangerous.”
