Morrisons’ new supermarket will open in Worksop on Monday creating 246 new jobs.

The Kilton Road store has sprung up in recent months and its petrol station began serving motorists this week.

It occupies part of the former Seafield site which has been the centre of planning talks for several years.

Morrisons said 103 of those employed at the new store were previously unemployed, bringing a welcome boost to the town’s labour market.

The supermarket is a ‘craft skills academy’ with staff trained in a range of traditional skills such as butchery, fishmongery, bakery and flower arranging.

Shoppers will see bakers kneading dough in the bakery and butchers making sausages fresh on the counter.

And new misting technology will optimise the freshness of food in the market section.

A continental deli counter, 140 cuts of meat in the butchery and more than 80 cheeses from around the world are sure to impress foodie customers as well as 48 varieties of freshly baked bread.

General manager Dan Turner said: “We are now looking forward to welcoming new shoppers into our Worksop store.”

Dan will cut the ribbon at 9am on Monday 7th April alongside representatives from Sue Ryder Care - Morrisons’ charity partner.
