The Guardian understands that price increases for stalls and car parks in the town will come into force on 1st April.

The changes will mainly affect those with two stalls, pitches and casual traders.

The announcement comes at a time when stallholders say they are already struggling.

Stan, who sells women’s handbags, said: “It is just another niggly little thing to pay.”

“I will still probably use the car parks because it is convenient.”

Clare Hallam, who sells prams, said: “It is a bit of a shock.”

“I cannot really complain too much but it is still quite an increase.”

“It probably seems a bit much because of how little we were paying in the past for parking.”

For Thursday’s market, prices have stayed the same for stalls and pitches.

For Friday’s collectors market, prices for individual stalls are still £13.50, two stalls has increased £2 to £22 and a pitch has gone up 50p to £13.

For Saturday’s market, stall prices have gone up £1 to £15.50, two stalls is up from £27.50 to £29 and a pitch is now £14 from £13.

Casual traders will now pay £3.50 instead of £2.

Not all traders were too concerned by the increases.

David Freestone, who sells DVDs, said: “It won’t affect me too much.”

“I make a living and my wife has a decent job.”

“I am sure there are people struggling though.”

“Over a year it amounts up.”

Another trader said: “It seems a lot to pay.”

“To be fair they haven’t put it up in years.”

“Trade is going down but then they decide to put the rents up, makes no sense.”

The Guardian contacted Bassetlaw Council but they were unable to provide a comment before we went to press.
