Worksop Market has gone through an overhaul, with new look stands and lighting fitted to over 100 stalls.

The bright, gold and white candy stripe tarpaulins were fitted by Bassetlaw District Council after listening to the needs of local traders.

The stalls replace the former dark green covers which were getting tired after five years of use.

More than £30,000 has been spent on the new stall covers, along with fitted lighting for both Worksop and Retford markets.

The stall covers have been specially selected due to their gloss coating which is more protective against dirt and rainwater for extended use.

Alan Peters, a market trader in Worksop for more than 46 years, said: “The new stall covers are a big improvement on the previous ones.

“They are much lighter than the green ones so make the stalls brighter for customers.

“The fitted lights are also great for displaying stock, especially in the winter when it’s darker.”

Cabinet Member for Regeneration at Bassetlaw District Council, Coun Jo White, said: “The Council are again showing their commitment to Worksop and its market town heritage by investing in new equipment for our traders. Value for money has been considered at every stage, and I hope the new equipment will serve traders well into the future.”
