David Potts, 25, of Cavendish Road, admitted the charge at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 18th June.

The court heard that a man by the name of Dale Fox, who was unknown to the defendant, was sat at his computer in his home on the night of 18th June when he heard a ‘loud bang’.

He went outside and he saw Potts punching his car and he asked him to stop.

Potts then threw a single punch which struck Mr Fox in the face which caused redness and bruising.

It was said that Potts had drank a bottle of vodka and injected MCAT and could not recall the incident.

In mitigation, Andrew Osbourne said that Potts had just suffered the loss of a close family member.

Potts also suffers from short-term memory loss and takes anti-psychotic medication.

“He is not a well young man,” Mr Osbourne said.

“It was committed out of character in circumstances of a family tragedy that led him to drink, it was a one off.”

“He has kept out of trouble for two years and is being supported by his family.”

The case was adjourned until 9th July for a probation report to be prepared and Potts was given unconditional bail.
