Worksop Past and Present features old photographs from the town going back more than 100 years in some cases, as well as old pictures and memories from surrounding towns as villages such as Whitwell, Oldcotes and Langold.

“It has really taken off, people love to remember what the town was like in older days,” said Richard Lycett, one of the site’s administrators.

“We started off by finding old pictures of our own and uploading them and immediately, people we clicking on them, liking the page and leaving comments saying how they remembered that old shop or that old area of the town.”

“It’s not just people from around the area either who are liking the site and visiting us regularly.”

“We have people from around the world now who are visiting and leaving comments or uploading pictures of their own and remembering what the town was like when they were there and seeing where they used to live.”

It’s not just Worksop either, we get people putting up pictures from the likes of Whitwell or Firbeck Collieries, for example, and remembering when they were there, and we share them on the page to all the page members and reach new audiences through that.”

People love memories and the way the page has just taken off reflects that.”

“We’ve posted a lot of our own old photos, people have also sent their pictures to us through private messages and some have posted directly on to the page themselves.”

“It’s a public site and anyone who wants to join us and share their old pictures of the town, they can do.”
