The project for which Hope are seeking funding will seek to transform the rear of a homeless shelter into a purpose built welcoming space for those in crisis.

Formerly the gardens of two now joined Edwardian properties, the space is used regularly by clients.

Unfortunately, it has become rather unmanaged and certainly unplanned.

The project will enable Hope’s residents in Worksop to be involved in the planning, design and physical improvement of the space, landscaping the site, positioning seating to take advantage of the sun’s path, resurfacing and creating paths for better mobility access – creating something for everyone to enjoy.

“We envisage creating specific areas, for example, vegetable plots where clients can learn how to grow their own food, a greenhouse for cultivation and an outdoor barbecue for warm evenings – all of which will help build self-confidence, aid rehabilitation and offer long-term skills development,” said Alan Diggles, chief executive.

“The project itself, creating the new space, will be a really progressive learning experience for residents, physical exertion (which some have not done for many years), skills development (we shall seek to offer accredited modules for their CV), team working (positive interpersonal, negotiation & mutual support), and a real sense of achievement and getting things done.”

“This personal development will be valuable in terms of their future employment opportunities, when they are ready and confident to take the next step in moving on.”
