Worksop: Lack of Canch splashpool during warm Easter break leaves kids in a huff

Families flocked to the splashpool during the Easter break, hoping to keep cool during a spell of unusually warm weather, but were disappointed to find the splashpool was closed.

Nigel Turner, who lives locally, said: “For the second year running, during a very warm spring period, there are no fountains at the Worksop Canch. My granddaughter is very unhappy!”

But the council said the splashpool will be up and running in May after undergoing a full service and safety check.

Liz Prime, head of neighbourhoods at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “Unfortunately we are not able to open the splash pool earlier than planned and due to the unpredictable British weather, we were not expecting this current warm spell.”

“Before being opened for the summer months, the splash pool must go through a full service, safety check and thorough cleaning process, which is booked and planned in for a set period each year.”

“Traditionally the splash pool in the Canch is opened in time for the first May Bank Holiday and this will again be the case this year, in addition to the splash pool in Langold Country Park.”

“We appreciate that this may come as a disappointment to regular users of the Canch and the Country Park but hope that they are still able to enjoy the other excellent facilities in our parks and that we experience the same good weather when the splash pools open at the beginning of May.”
