Worksop: Health warnings after high levels of air pollution hit town

Sufferers of lung or heart disease and the elderly in Worksop should avoid strenous exercise outside as high pollution levels are expected Wednesday afternoon.

Defra have issued health warnings after recording the data on a 10-point air quality scale.

This morning air pollution in the area was measured at a rating of three - a low level- but forecasters have predicted high risk levels of eight or nine later in the day.

A recording of this magnitude could also mean people with asthma may need to use their inhaler more often.

Anyone experiencing discomfort with sore eyes, sore throat or coughing should reduce their physical exertion.

The pollution - a mix of local and European emissions and dust from the Sahara - is forecast across the country including the Midlands.
