Worksop: Guardian appeal helps find champions for new Breast cancer screening programme
Three women came forward after the appeal was published in the Guardian and will now be helping Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals to raise awareness of breast cancer screening as well as encouraging women across the whole of South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw to take up their screening invitation.
Lianne Stones , 51, of Gateford, was first to respond and also encouraged her sister Melinda to step up as the Champion for Barnsley.

Lianne, who is currently undergoing Radiotherapy after her cancer was detected through screening in February this year said: “I went for screening after receiving my first invitation and the mammogram found a lump that I wouldn’t have been able to find myself.”
“I am very glad that I had the scan therefore as, while I am still undergoing treatment, screening has given me a chance to beat the disease. Finding my cancer so early has greatly reduced my risk.”
Frances Ludditt, 58, of Whitwell, also came forward to be a Bassetlaw champion with Lianne.
