Worksop: Golf club present huge cheque to Aurora

A generous cheque for thousands of pounds has been handed over to local cancer charity Aurora from Worksop Golf Club.

The 500 members and officers have worked hard all year and last week they presented a cheque for £3079 to Aurora campaign manager for Bassetlaw, Peter Bradley.

The captains of the golf club chose to adopt Aurora as their charity of the year and they raised the cash through 15 events.

The legendary Gordon Banks and Nobby Stiles were celebrity guests at a sportsman dinner which got the fund raising off to a great start.

Peter said: It is not every day that a small charity such as ours receives much needed funds as large as this and our sincere thanks go out to Keith Hearnshaw the captain of Worksop Golf Club for choosing us and to the lady captain Connie Bottell, officers, and all the members for their tremendous support.”

“Although we are a small charity and we do not receive any statutory funding, our services are in high demand and they are available free of charge to local people who have been diagnosed with cancer.”

“In 2013 Aurora services were used by over 2500 through five centres and the money raised by the members will allow another 30 patients to receive a programme of six free treatments each which are specifically designed to raise self-esteem, self-confidence and to provide all the support that people living with a cancer diagnosis need.”

“A huge thank you to everyone who has been a part of this fantastic achievement which has not only raised the much needed funds but also the profile of the charity has been raised and last but definitely not least we have made some great new friends.”
