Steph’s mum Angela said: “Karen is a genuine nice person who selflessly gives up her own time for the benefit of others. I feel honoured to have her be part of our family and Steph blooms when she is with her.

“Karen meets Steph off her college bus two or three evenings a week. She supports her to go to clubs, nail bars or out for tea depending on what Steph wants to do.”

Angela, of Forest Lane, Worksop, says that Karen’s help also allows her to work full-time without having to worry about Steph.

“Steph describes Karen as ‘crazy Karen’ because she is so much fun,” Angela said.

Stephanie said: “I have lots of people help to look after me but I have one very special carer. Karen helps me to do all the things I like to do and makes me empty the dishwasher which is my worst job.”
