Worksop: Free family fun activities at Sandhill Lakes

The event, on Saturday 4th October, at Sandhill Lakes, will give people the opportunity to enjoy a boat ride, kayaking and fishing.

It is part of a drive to get more people out into the fresh air and exploring the town’s outdoor places such as the Chesterfield Canal.

The day is being organised by the Canal & River Trust, Chesterfield Canal Trust, R.E.A.L Education, the Angling Trust, Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw and Bassetlaw District Council.

Former England youth international angling squad member, Frankie Gianoncelli, will be on hand to give expert coaching to people who may never have tried angling in the past.

Glyn Williams, member of the Canal & River Trust’s East Midlands waterway partnership, said; “This promises to be a really fun event and a great opportunity for people to try something new.

“With fantastic outdoor spaces like the Chesterfield Canal there’s lots for families to do in and around Worksop and we want to show them what’s available on their doorstep.”

“This event will enable people to find an activity that suits them, whether it be kayaking or something a little more relaxing like fishing we’d simply urge people to come along and have a go.”

The day is free of charge and all activities begin at 10.30am.

Families are encouraged to wear warm clothing and suitable footwear and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Sandhill Lake is located on Gladstone Street, Worksop. and limited parking is available.

Sandhill Lake has seen a number of recent improvements including better footpaths, barrier fences, gates, installation of new fishing platforms and furnishings.

The work has been undertaken in partnership with various organisations and groups with funding from WREN, Notts County Council, Bassetlaw District Council and Friends of Sandhill Lake.
