Six fire engines were at the scene along with the police at the height of the blaze which raged for four hours from 9pm until 1am.

Residents were told to keep their windows and doors shut during the night because of the amount of smoke in the area.

And Wingfield Avenue was closed as a precaution while crews fought the flames.

A Notts Police spokesman said: “No one was thought to have been inside the premises and no one is reported injured.”

Firefighters from Worksop, Retford, Harworth and Mansfield were all present at the scene using three water jets and an aerial ladder platform to tackle the raging blaze. The fire was out just before 1am.

Worksop firefighters are at the scene this morning assessing the damage caused to the derelict single storey building.

Notts Police will also launch an investigation into the cause.
