Worksop: Fire at recycling centre is extinguished after 9 day battle

Firefighters have extinguished the blaze at Worksop recycling centre after battling it for 9 days.

Fire crews from Worksop and Retford managed to put the fire out by using diggers to separate small sections of burning waste and extinguishing them.

Firefighters will return to the site every six hours to ensure the fire does not reactivate.

Staff from the recycling centre are currently in the process of removing burnt materials from the area.

The fire at the recycling centre in Shireoaks Road broke out at 5am on Sunday 23rd February.

At its peak there were 10 fire engines at the site, fighting the blaze which started in a building used for storage.
