The scheme is called Shared Lives and recruits individuals and their families to become carers and to support adults who need help to live independently.

This includes people with physical or learning disabilities, people with mental health needs and older people.

The new recruits receive training and are paid depending on the needs of the person.

Once the carer is qualified, they can offer long-term accommodation, regular short breaks and support during the day.

This type of support means that the main carer can have a holiday or a break when they need it.

Coun Muriel Weisz, chair of Adult Social Care and Health Committee at Notts County Council said: “The beauty of the Shared Lives scheme is that it offers a home from home for people who want greater independence or need support if their main carer is unavailable.”

“It can be a great worry for the main carer to find alternative support for their loved one and we work with them to ensure we find the right carer and home environment that meets their needs.”

The Shared Lives event will be held on: Wednesday 8th October at Worksop Library on Memorial Avenue from 11am until 2pm.

Advisors will be there to explain the scheme and refreshments will be available.

Anyone who is interested in using Shared Lives or becoming a Shared Lives carer can visit www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/sharedlives or phone 0300 500 80 80.
