Worksop dumped out of NCEL League Cup at home

A spectacular Igor Mlynarski goal during a dominant second half display from Worksop offered encouragement in the face of a 3-1 loss to Bridlington Town at Sandy Lane.

The visitors were missing manager Curtis Woodhouse from the dugout but a Joel Sutton hat-trick inspired Brid to a third round success in front of a crowd of 283.

Milligan said: “Ultimately we lost so we’re disappointed. I thought we had enough chances to win the game and on another night it would have been us to progress through to the next round but it’s difficult.

“I think fitness showed a bit and I’ve said inside that experience probably showed a bit but that’s not the younger lads letting us down. Sometimes that’s them who are the ones who are stepping up to the plate.

“I think when you’re missing players on a regular basis you can’t get any consistency. It’s hard to build that momentum which we’re trying to do step by step to the end of the season.”

Tigers goalscorer Mlynarski impressed again from out wide, grabbing his third in two games, and assistant manager John Buckley praised him afterwards by saying “he’s got something special”.

The second half was encouraging with Luke Black coming on for his debut in midfield and young Tiler Lysons also impressing on his first start for the club.

Milligan and Buckley continued their post match analysis.

“We aren’t disappointed with tonight, the young lads are doing well but we do need that experience.

“We created lots of opportunities and we shouldn’t be downbeat, they are the best team we’ve faced in our reign so far. They are big and physical but we still had lots of moments when getting it wide, it was just the end product tonight for us.”

Worksop face high flying Pickering Town away from home on Saturday and the management team are aware of the test they face.

“Pickering will be a tough test, we saw them earlier in the season and they are probably the best ball-playing side we’ve seen. They have a good sitting midfielder that dictates the game so we will have to conjure up a plan to deal with that, we hope to welcome back some key players for the game as well.”
