Terrance and Maureen Redfearn, of Garside Street, who are both aged 83, first met in Germany when they were in the forces.

The pair married in Retford in 1955 when they came out of service and have lived in Worksop since 1966.

They have two sons, called Tom and Stephen, and three grandchildren.

Terrance said: “I was in the Royal Signals and Maureen was in the WRAF.

“We have had lot of special memories together.

“We have been on holidays to Italy, Germany, Austria, Spain, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Egypt.”

Terrance and Maureen received a special message from the Queen on Thursday, September 24, congratulating them on their diamond wedding anniversary.

The message said: “I am so pleased know you are celebrating your diamond wedding anniversary.

“ I send my congratulations and best wishes on such a special occasion.”

The pair marked their anniversary with a family gathering on Saturday at The Station Hotel and are also heading to Durham this week.

Sheffield-born Maureen told the Guardian that she “could not wish for a better husband”.

She said: “We have got such a wonderful family who are rooting for us.

“We could not be more happy with our lives. We just love our lives together.”
