Worksop: Delays expected as next phase of bus station set to start

Delays are expected next week in Worksop due to work on the new bus station

The fourth and final stage will mean that traffic flow on Queen Street will be reversed and new parking controls will be introduced.

The bus station is expected to be completed in August.

As of Monday, temporary road closures will be in place and this could cause some disruption in the area.

Notts County Council said: “The temporary road closures on Newcastle Street are required because Severn Trent Water need to get across the carriageway when they put in a new water main which is required as part of the bus station works.”

Between 15th and 27th June, 6am-12noon, works on the B6024 Newcastle Street will affect westbound traffic only, from its junction with B6040 Watson Road for a distance of 35 metres in a westerly direction.

More disruption could be caused later in the month between 27th June and 5th July, 12-6pm, with works taking place on the B6024 Newcastle Street from its junction with B6040 Watson Road to its junction with Queen Street.

The council has notified drivers of alternative routes, which include; B6040 Watson Road - Queen Street - B6024 Newcastle Street. For eastbound traffic; Hardy Street, Ryton Street and B6040 Watson Road. And for westbound traffic: B6040 - Queen Street and B6024 Newcastle Street.

After planning was approved, work started at the Queen Street car park to create space for the bus station.

The second phase involved work being carried out to the junction of Watson Road/Newcastle Street with a new left turn. More recently people will have noticed the construction of the main building, bus turning area and landscaping.

The council added: “Tasks undertaken this month include the construction of all internal walls, completion of the curtain wall and plastering. Works on the café ceiling has also just begun so the building is now really starting to take shape.”
