A £10,000 grant from Bassetlaw District Council’s ‘Club Changer’ project has allowed the club to invest in additional toilet facilities with disabled access. The improvements have already made a “big difference” to the club’s flat green bowls section which also aims to promote friendship and support for the community.

David Payne, chairman of the flat green bowls section at Worksop Cricket and Sports Club, said: “The new toilets next to the bowling green have been a wonderful addition to our club, especially for the elderly members who have mobility issues.

“The money has been well spent, and I’m sure the effects will be felt long into our club’s future.”

The project is just one of the five clubs helped by the district council’s funding scheme, a legacy of the 2012 Bassetlaw Games which aims to get more people across the district involved in sport.

Other grants have included investment into community facilities such as Retford Gymnastic Club and Harworth and Bircotes Boxing Centre.

Councillor Julie Leigh, cabinet member for neighbourhoods at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see how much of a difference the council’s ‘Club Changer’ grant is making to sports facilities such as the Worksop Cricket and Sports club.

“By investing in these clubs we are not only improving the district’s sporting infrastructure but making sure both young and old feel the positive effects sport can offer well into the future.”
