Worksop: Courageous security guard praised by police for trying to save life of town shopper

A Worksop security guard has been praised for his courageous attempt at trying to save the life of a town shopper.

Priory Shopping Centre security guard, Calum Cooper, has been awarded a Divisional Commander Commendation by Notts Police.

Chief Superintendent Mark Holland congratulated him in a letter for his quick-thinking in a tragic incident that took place in 2014.

A female customer called for help from the security team after her friend fell ill on a barge behind the centre. On arrival at the scene, Calum quickly commenced CPR until paramedics arrived. Despite the team’s best efforts, the man tragically passed away due to a heart attack.

In recognition of Calum’s efforts, the commendation will be presented during the divisional awards evening taking place on 22nd April.

Centre manager, David Aunins, said: “Calum has repeatedly proven his dedication to the centre and has shown bravery in the face of adversity.”

“Despite the tragic circumstances, it’s a proud moment for us all at the centre and it’s great to see Calum receive the recognition he deserves”.

Calum’s hard work and dedication was also recognised by the police earlier this year. In January the centre received another letter from Chief Supt Mark Holland commending Calum’s involvement in a previous incident.
