Worksop: Council leaders meet the public

Coun Greaves, deputy leader Coun Griff Wynne and interim chief executive of the council Neil Taylor spent the day at Worksop market talking with the public about issues that mattered to them, as well giving them information about the council’s plans for the future.

“I think this is something that should have been done a long time ago, it is the bread and butter of how a council engages with local people,” said Coun Greaves.

“People have been very keen to come and tell us what their views are and we’ve had comments on the bus station, the county council, policing, problem drinkers, cyclists in the town centre and inconsiderate parking”

“In reality, the comments and responses we had were largely very positive. There are lots of things people are happy about and there were lots of suggestions about how we can improve things further.”

One of those who came to express her views was Hazel Derry of Worksop, who said: I think these sort of events are good but only if they work on it, I want to see things being acted upon.”

Coun Greaves said the council would be acting on as much as possible, but stressed that they would need to assess everything first because a lot of the suggestions would involve other agencies as well.
