Worksop: Christmas is delivered by the council

A Worksop luncheon club had Christmas get together with a difference as their festive meal was provided by Notts County Council’s Meals at Home Service.

The monthly St Anne’s Church Hall Luncheon Club has around 40 members, who well all delivered their Christmas turkey dinner with all the trimmings, followed by a Christmas pudding with brandy sauce.

St Anne’s is one of numerous lunch clubs throughout the county who have had their Christmas dinners delivered by the Meals at Home service this month.

It has also been delivering frozen Christmas meals to council residents since 1st December and has been delivering hot festive meals all this week.

In all, the council will be producing 1,200 frozen Christmas dinners, 1,300 luncheon club Christmas dinners and 800 individual Christmas dinners, which will be delivered hot, this festive period.

Coun Muriel Weisz, chairman of the council’s Adult Social Care and Health Committee, said: “For many older people, a Christmas luncheon club meal is their only get together over the festive season, so I’m proud that we are helping to make this happen.”

“Our Meals at Home service also offers a Christmas dinner for all our customers so no one need miss out on traditional turkey with all the trimmings.”
