Worksop: Children left ‘upset’ after thieves steal toys from nursery

Staff arrived at the premises at around 7.30am on Friday 24th October to find the centre, located in The Canch, Worksop, had been trashed after a door had been smashed down.

Amongst the items taken were children’s toys, cash, laptops, a photocopier and a flat screen television.

Debbie Trainor, manager at Lilliput Day Nursery, said: “Everybody is really upset. It is the children that are really suffering.”

“On the Friday before (17th) someone set fire to the toy shed in the early hours of the morning. Luckily a guy who had been out late drinking saw the fire otherwise the whole nursery would have burnt down. But the kids are still going outside to play.”

“And on the Monday there was an attempted break-in.”

“It is just a nursery, we do not make a profit, we had to close the nursery on Friday, we can’t afford the losses.”

Forensics were at the scene on Friday morning and CCTV footage has been analysed.

Last year the Guardian reported how the nursery had been targeted twice in August 2013 with toys again being taken.

“We have had a lot of support from people on Facebook and from the police,” Debbie added. “We are going to increase our security to put all the parents’ mind at rest. We are looking into putting up some CCTV of our own.”

Police chiefs confirmed to the Guardian that no arrests have currently been made.
