ParkingEye is a car park monitoring system that uses automatic number plate recognition to record number plates of all vehicles entering and leaving the car park.

This data is then matched with the vehicle registration information entered at the pay and display machines.

As part of the new initiative new pay and displays machine are being installed in the car park.

Motorists will not face an increase in charges, however they will get the option of paying using their mobile phones.

The new system, which is used in more than 850 parking facilities across the UK, will ensure accuracy as every fine issued is manually checked before being sent to the car owner.

Centre manager, Lynette Bray, said: “We hope that the new car parking scheme will help boost trade at the Priory.”

“By using ParkingEye we can check that people are not exceeding the parking limits, which will free spaces that may have been parked illegally for long periods of time and will encourage a regular flow of shoppers.”
