Worksop: Campaigners dismiss County council claims over incinerator plans

But campaigners say the proposed incinerator for Worksop is a separate plan to anything to do with the waste transfer station and the council’s claim is meaningless.

The council approved plans for the transfer station on Claylands Avenue last week, heightening fears the incinerator proposed for siting on Sandy Lane – also getting the green light.

But the council has sought to reassure Worksop residents that this is not the case.

“The waste transfer station means that there will be no need for any additional waste disposal sites locally for waste from Bassetlaw residents – such as an incinerator – because the waste is being dealt with at existing facilities,” said Mick Allen, the council’s group manager for waste and energy management.

“It will be professionally managed by Veolia and tightly controlled by the council and the Environment Agency.”

“It will be situated in an established industrial area and, to all intents and purposes, will look from the outside, like any other large industrial unit.”

“It will also save money for the local district council and reduce the amount of damage caused to vehicles when driving on to the Daneshill landfill site.”

“A spokesman for Worksop Against Incineration said: “This is just the council putting gloss on their plans.”

“But the waste transfer station is a different scheme to the major incinerator plans we are against, so this has no bearing on our campaign.”
