Worksop: Bus Station demolition work to begin in August

Plans for the new £3.2 million service were approved by councillors in February of this year and developments have been progressing smoothly

Refurbishment work is currently being carried out on Watson Road and adjustments to the Queen Street cark park have now been completed with the final touches to designs edging closer.

The next major stage of the process is to knock downthe small building at the centre of the location - which are former offices of the Guardian.

Paul Horn of Notts County Council, said: “In August we are going to start the construction work on the main site for the bus station.”

“The small building at the centre of the site with the small turrets, that will be demolished in August.”

“That will eventually form the exit for the buses onto Watson Road.”

“The land next to that which used to be a former car park will be the new eight-bay fully enclosed building.”

“That will have a cafe, toilets, staff information points, electronic screens.”

“Buses will enter through Queen Street, drive into the bus station and then reverse out onto Watson Road and head straight into town.”

The council has visited new bus stations across the country to see what works best - including the finer improvements of padded seats and hi-tech info screens.

And now they are having visits from councils to see how Notts have put the project together.

The council previously worked on the Retford and Mansfield stations.

“Hopefully next Spring the people of Worksop will have a lovely new station to use.”
