Alex Horne, a year 6 pupil from Dawn House school, will recite his jokes at the Voice Box grand final in front of a judging panel including comedian Lee Mack.

Mainstream primary and special schools across England were invited to work on their own, or with their speech and language therapists, to hold joke-telling events during September 2013 as part of the Voice Box campaign.

Ten finalists, including Alex, were then shortlisted to attend the grand final at Speaker’s House in Westminster.

Lee Mack said: “I’m delighted to be a part of Voice Box and support this important campaign. I look forward to meeting the budding comedians at the final. I’m sure they’ll all be great- but hopefully not too great that they put me out of a job.”

Voice Box, a joint initiative by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and The Communication Trust, is a joke competition designed to raise awareness on the importance of communication.

Anne Fox, director, said: “Voice Box helps schools bring communication to the fore and acts as a really practical way to make school more communication friendly. We’re delighted to be involved in this joint initiative and look forward to the laughter that it will bring.”
