The volunteers will be required to collect donations as well as selling the commemorative poppy pin badges in Worksop supermarkets.

Elaine Hopkins, regional fundraiser for The British Legion, said: “We have permission to sell the poppies in six supermarkets across Worksop, and so far only have enough volunteers to cover three- so we’re in urgent need of more volunteers.”

“We would be grateful if anyone could spare a few hours a week to assist with this very important appeal and help raise funds for the Legion.”

This year, The Festival of Remembrance is to take place at the North Notts Arena on Saturday 25th October at 7pm, with tickets still on sale.

“The festival will remember the fallen men and servicewomen of not just of the two world wars but all subsequent conflicts the British Armed Forces will have been, or are still, involved with,” added Elaine.

“We will also use the event to launch the 2014 Poppy Appeal and promote the work of the Royal British Legion in Worksop and raise funds for the Legion.”

The Worksop Branch of the Legion is still under threat of closure, but the Guardian is leading a campaign to help prevent this.

Good community support for events like the Festival of Remembrance will also help this cause.

Tickets are £6.50 for adults, £4 for under-16s and £15 for a family ticket (two adults and two children).

Tickets are available from North Notts Arena on Eastgate, The Crossing Church and Centre on Newcastle Avenue, by calling 0774 9421699 or emailing [email protected]
