Robert Ankow, 37, of Potter Street, admitted to driving a motor vehicle when over the limit and without a full driving license at Worksop Magistrates Court on Thursday 31st July.

Ruth Snodin, prosecuting, told the court how Antkow had drank two 750ml bottles of vodka at a friend’s birthday party on Saturday 28th June.

Later that evening, he returned home on foot but, after arguing with his girlfriend, wanted to ‘get some fresh air’.

He got into his girlfriend’s Vauxhall Vectra and drove it to a nearby supermarket, despite only holding a provisional driving license.

He then purchased an eight-pack of beer and drank two cans before returning to the car and driving it along Gateford Road.

When his phone started ringing, he took it out of his pocket and looked at the screen before crashing into a parked Toyota Yaris.

Antkow told magistrates that he ‘apologised deeply’ for what had occurred.

Magistrates imposed a 12 week prison sentence suspended for 12 months with an alcohol treatment requirement.

Antkow was also disqualified from driving for three years and ordered to pay a £65 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
