Worksop: Bassetlaw hospital gets new lifesaving equipment thanks to fundraising

Nick Allmond, and his employers Thorsby Home Farm, have managed to raise over £4,500 to buy the machine which provides lifesaving mechanical cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to help resuscitate patients who have had a cardiac arrest.

The machine is strapped to the patient and delivers highly effective CPR compressions to help resuscitate a patient who is showing no pulse or is unconscious.

The machine works on its own and gives automated and continuous CPR allowing staff to be freed up to help with the patients other needs.

Nick was blue lighted to Bassetlaw Hospitals Emergency Department in 2014 when he broke his leg at work and was so pleased with the treatment he received he approached Thorsby’s Millennium Committee and asked if Bassetlaw Hospital could be the nominated charity for their annual hay ride event.

It was agreed and in June 2014 the popular hay ride raised over £8,500, with half going to Bassetlaw Hospital and half going to The Brain Tumour Charity.

This is the first Lucas machine the Trust has taken delivery of and it will be based in the Resuscitation Room in the Emergency Department.

This year’s hayride takes place on Friday 12th June and you will need to book well in advance as over 400 people attended the hayride and picnic last year.
