Worksop: Artist award top drawing prize

The Jerwood Drawing Prize is known for being the largest and longest running annual open exhibition for drawing in the UK.

Bryan, who is currently completing a PhD at Sheffield Hallam University has been awarded one of two Student Awards, worth £2,000 each for his pencil on paper drawing is entitled After Joseph Beuys’ ‘Wirtshaftswerte’.

“I make drawings of art works by others,” he said.

“This was made after ‘Wirtschaftswerte’ was shown at the Graves Art Gallery during Art Sheffield 2013.

“The multi-panel format allowed me to make it at home while half-watching favourite films, or listening to podcasts or the cricket.”

His work is now on show alongside nearly 60 short-listed works at Jerwood Space in London until October 25.

It will then tour the UK into the summer of 2016.

The top prize of £8,000 was awarded to Tom Harrison for his pencil drawing From Andrew’s Flat, Singapore.

Second prize of £5,000 went Elisa Alaluusua for her video, Unconditional Line.

The other student prize went to Lois Langmead.
