Worksop: £2.4m works on Millhouse roundabout 'running smoothly', say council chiefs

Work on a major £2.4m road improvement scheme in Worksop began this week, and council chiefs say the project is 'running smoothly.'

The scheme, which will see traffic signals introduced at the Millhouse roundabout, began on Monday (February 15).

Residents were informed about the upcoming works last year, and raised concerns that they would leave Worksop “isolated and gridlocked.”

But Rob Driver, team manager for highway design at Nottinghamshire County Council, said disruption had been kept to a minimum while the project takes shape.

He said: “Work began on Monday with the setting up of the temporary traffic management system, tree clearance on the roundabout itself and clearing the embankment near to the petrol station off St Anne’s Drive.

“It is still very early days but, so far, things have been running smoothly.

“Whenever we carry out any major improvements such as this we work very hard to keep any disruption for road-users down to a minimum.”

Coun Kevin Greaves, chairman of the transport and highways committeeat Nottinghamshire County Council, said the project had the “potential” to generate thousands of jobs for the area.

Work on the scheme is expected to be completed in July of this year.
