Worksop: A slice of haulage history goes under the hammer

Mick, 77, from Worksop, has spent the last 20 years building a recreating trucks and lorries of all the current and former firms and companies that used to be seen in and around Worksop, companies like Wilkinson’s, W.I.T, Streetley, J.T. Hunt and Smiths.

He built them with his wife Pam but after she died earlier this year, Mick, who is himself a former lorry driver and who drove for some of the companies whose lorries he has recreated, decided to end the project.

“We were a team, I did the building and she did the painting and I think we had nearly 280 models at one point in various display cabinets in the house,” he said.

“I’ve decided to sell them now, primarily because no-one really wants them.”

“Mr Wilkinson bought 23 of my models but no other firms really wanted them and my family decided they didn’t want them either.”

“I don’t think they’ve got the space to be honest, I know I haven’t really any more, so giving them to be auctioned was the best idea.”

“They are a piece of history for the local area and the rich haulage heritage we have in Worksop, so hopefully someone will want them, a historian or just a collector who like me is interested in that side of local history.”
