Worksop: A pupil inspires St John’s Primary School to make the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation their chosen charity of the year

Andrew Ferrol, a pupil at St John’s Primary School in Worksop, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was three-years-old.

So far, Andrew has had 15,200 finger pricks, 252 injections and 608 canulla insertions.

Andrew’s mum, Sam Ferrol said: “Andrew needs full support to manage his condition and this means that he needs extra help at school to keep him safe.”

“This has prompted the school to help raise awareness and funds for JDRF in the hope of making people and schools more aware of children with Type 1 diabetes within the education system.”

To support Andrew and other children who suffer with diabetes, the school have organised fundraising events throughout the year, including two members of staff running the Virgin London Marathon in 2015.

St John’s Primary School will also be marking World Diabetes Day by holding a TypeOnesie day on Friday 14th November.

Children will have the opportunity to donate £1 and come to school in their onesies.

There will be an assembly on the day, from the Children’s Pediatrics Diabetic Nurse .

The nurse hopes to give children knowledge and understanding of Type 1 Diabetes.
