Little Abbi Hopkinson, who attends St. Luke’ s Primary School, honoured Key Stage 2 teacher Mark Bell with the accolade in a surprise ceremony at the school on Thursday 20th July.

Mum Lisa Hopkinson, who sent a nomination into the Guardian on Abbi’s behalf, said: “Abbi is a timid little girl who has come so far thanks to Mr Bell’s efforts.

“When she first arrived at the school she was extremely shy, but has since gone on to tackle a main role in the school play and has even worn Pupil of the Term award.

“All this just goes to show how much she has progressed thanks to his encouragement over the past year.

“Come September Abbi will be moving into another class but is really excited about it because of her newfound confidence.

“Mr Bell has a lot of time for my daughter and also for the other pupils he teaches.
