Woman dies in bike smash

A WOMAN has died after a motorbike collision in the Collingham area, near Newark.

She was a pillion passenger in a motorbike which collided with a caravan on the A1133 near to its junction with the A46 yesterday (Sunday 27th May) just after 5pm.

Police think the motorbike was part of a larger group travelling from the Gainsborough area, through Collingham, towards Newark.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the 43-year-old rider of the bike was air-lifted to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with serious injuries. He remains in a serious condition in hospital.

The A113 was closed between Collingham and the A46 while police conducted their enquiries and the scene was cleared. It was re-opened at around 1am today (Monday 28th May).
