Beverley Platts was seen acting suspiciously as she chatted with the prisoner during visiting time.

Hannah Whelan, prosecuting, told Lincoln Crown Court that Platts was monitored by CCTV cameras inside the visiting area and seen to pass over an item to the man.

Miss Whelan said: “She had taken something from between her legs and was seen to pass it over to the prisoner who placed it down his jogging bottoms.

“The CCTV operator alerted prison officers and she was apprehended.”

The package turned out to be a condom containing anabolic steroids which are included in a list of banned substances in prisons.

Platts, 52, of Shelley Drive, Dinnington, South Yorkshire, admitted a charge of conveying a banned item into prison as a result of the incident on June 9 this year.

Edward Moss, defending, told the court that Platts now has nothing to do with the prisoner.

He said “There has been no contact since this and there never will be.”

Platts was given a nine month jail sentence suspended for two years and ordered to pay a £900 Criminal Courts Charge.

Judge Stuart Rafferty QC told her: “For heaven’s sake what did you think you were doing?

“I know you were put under pressure to do it but if anything went wrong it wasn’t him that was going to be in the wrong. It was always going to be you.

“I accept it wasn’t your idea. If I thought it was your idea you would be going straight to prison.”
