The long dry summer meant that the vegetables were not of quite such high quality and size as last year, but the fruit was the best ever.

The fruit judge had his work cut out to decide on prize winners.

Margaret Smith, the society’s president, thanked the committee for their hard work in staging the show, the judges for their expertise and all who had come to look at the exhibits.

But her biggest thanks went to those who had entered the show. Mrs Smith was ‘delighted’ by the level of support and the standard of the entries.

The prizes were handed out by Mr and Mrs Drury, whose have had connections with the village for a number of years.

This year the Aggregate cup for most points in Show was won by Sue Faull, with Dorothy Wain as runner up.

The Junior Aggregate Cup was won by Elsie Bingham, with George Leak as runner up.

Susan Bingham was the winner of the best kept garden – a prize given by the Parish Council.

Following the prize giving, there was an auction of produce, with the proceeds going towards the cost of staging the next year’s show.

The full list of cup winners can be found on the village website willinghambystow.co.uk.
