Whitwell: Guardian rose for busy bee Janet

Sometimes it can seem like there aren’t enough hours in the day.

This is certainly the case for Janet Westerby, a busy Mum and Grandmother from Whitwell.

Along with caring for her family, Janet also works a full-time job at Derbyshire County Council, is in her third year of studying a degree in social work with the Open University and organises countless social and fundraising events in Whitwell.

Baffled by Janet’s dedication and hard work, friend Carol Shooter could think of no better way to surprise Janet than with a Guardian rose at a fundraising coffee morning at Whitwell Community Centre on Saturday 23rd August.

Said Carol: “I honestly don’t know where Janet finds the time to do everything she does.”

“She’s always smiling and is a special friend and support to everyone in the village.”

Janet, who is also a senior steward at Whitwell methodist church, said: “It was an absolute shock to receive the rose- I never saw it coming!”

“It was very cunningly planned, but I didn’t have time to be annoyed- it was a lovely gesture and I was incredibly humbled.”

“I don’t how my daughters and grandchildren managed to keep it a secret, but they did very well.“

“It was a lovely day. We raised £250 for the church too,” added Janet.
