Whitwell: 90-year-old woman confronts burglars

A 90-year-old woman returned to her home in Thorpe Avenue at around 3pm on 4th January, where she found a man in the garden.

She challenged him, before he and two other men ran off towards Franklin Avenue.

Derbyshire Police said that when the woman got into her home, she discovered that the house had been ransacked,

She also found that a bedroom window had been damaged,

Police said that at this stage it is not thought that anything has been stolen from the house.

The man the woman challenged is described as white, in his late 20s and about 5ft 7ins tall.

He has short hair and is of medium build.

All three men had scarves around the lower part of their faces.
